Ballad of Abigail

At the foot of these mountains
In the pine forest vale
Lives a beautiful woman
Call her Abigail
Abigail

She goes swimming in the waterfall
And riding on the trail
She's the mother of the mountain
Call her Abigail
Abigail

There ain't a girl in this whole wide world
Like Abigail

Now the Sheriff's son came riding
One day along that trail
Saw a woman bathing
It was Abigail
Abigail

The devil on his shoulder
Started to regale
Whispered in the young man's ear
Abigail
Abigail

Said, There ain't a girl in this whole wide world
Like Abigail

He crept down through the brambles
Down to the water's edge
With all them wicked thoughts up in his head

He unbuckled his gun belt
Slipped out of his boots
Waded in behind her and made his move

Now Abigail was beautiful
But hard as nails
She was quicker than a bobcat
Abigail
Abigail

She fought herself away from him
Got back to the trail
Grabbed the gun out of his gun belt
Abigail
Abigail

There ain't a girl in this whole wide world
Like Abigail
